For the first time this season the Crusaders actually outrated their opposition and I felt confident we could have a competitive match. Sebastian and Biran had a good theoretical battle in the Colorado Gambit and Sebastian got the better position and won a nice game.
Mark won a pawn and had a strong passed pawn which he converted into another win against John Dolomore. Dan had the black pieces against Dave Dempster ( someone who he had already beaten this season) but went badly wrong and lost his game. My game on bd 2 against Steve Moore was a nail-biter. I felt I had a good position with all my heavy pieces on the g file and both our clock times running short. With an audience gathering, I saw what I thought at the time was a beautiful rook sacrifice only to realize too late that I could not play the queen to h4 to give mate on accounts that my queen was pinned to my king. The onlookers gave a collective sigh and turned shaking their heads. I was crestfallen! Many expletives followed and I shook my opponent’s hand and accepted defeat. So a good competitive match and a hard-fought draw. This team is definitely beatable and hopefully, we can get the full point next time we play them
