Gents The Crusaders hosted Fakenham Gambits last night and put in good performance taking 1.5 points off them and at one stage looked like holding them to a draw. I was the first to fall after blundering early in the game and actually getting mated on the board in 24 moves. Not my finest hour and a disaster against the Sicilian Alapin. Dan held Dave LeMoir to a draw with the black pieces – a very solid result. Nigel had a superb attack set up against John Wickham and after much pressure john resigned, unable to prevent the mate on the board. Well done Nigel. Hopefully, he will share this game as it was a nice finish. So at 1.5 – 1.5 it was all down to bd 2 and Sebastian v Trevor Ansell. The position looked fairly even but after taking up more and more time on the clock Sebastian’s position deteriorated. An error lost a second pawn and he game was doomed. Sebastian says he will analyse it and hopefully share at a later stage. Apart from my disastrous effort I was pleased with the result and the Crusaders now sit in 3rd place in the league albeit with more matches played than some of our chasers.
