Gents
A great win on Thursday sees us through to the semi-final of the plate. Dan had a solid draw with the black pieces against Jon Wells. Sebastian slipped up early in the opening against Jeff Dawson but hung on for 70+ moves the exchange down and eventually lost. I played Mervyn Hughes and seemed to be on the worse end of the game until I managed to rustle up a kingside attack and my opponent missed a crucial line giving me the game. M Hughes v D Payne Nathan was out for revenge against Greg Tebble who had bested him earlier in the season. Nathan played well against Greg's French defence and found a neat tactic to win a pawn and gain a more active position. With good play, he comfortably achieved the full point and we had won the match.
