On a cold and crisp evening, the Templars last night drew with the newly formed Spitfires.
I was facing Bruce Carman on board 3. Before we started, Brian mentioned the time when Bruce had beaten him in 8 moves. We, after 6 or 7 moves, I thought that I was going to befall the same fate with my g pawn on f3 and most of his army lined up for the kill. I just about weathered the storm and after pieces had been exchanged I got my rooks on the g and h files and built up a strong attack on his king. It came to nothing and a draw was eventually agreed. Game to follow. Early in the evening I looked across at Harry’s game on board 2. He looked in a horrendous position with his opponent having an advanced g pawn threatening all sorts of nasties. I didn’t see any more but Harry eventually lost. [I messed up my opening in a spectacular way, could've resigned on move 6 or 7! - Harry] Brian was facing Rupert Martin on board 4 whom he efficiently dispatched. By this time I was down in the bar area analysing my game and Brian advised that Nathan was either going to draw or beat David Owen. A draw was the final result, not just for Nathan but for the team, 2-2 against a strong Spitfires side. Well done chaps! Regards Crumpton
