Hi
Apologies for the late report. Brian kindly drove the team to the Feathers pub in Wymondham. I usually like to avail myself of the excellent ales available there but had to go easy on this occasion as I was having to drive in the middle of the night (day trip to Berlin!!). The Templars faced a Wymondham side who were joint top of the league at the start of the week and who outgraded us by an average of 25 points each. Nigel guested on board 1, filling in for Nathan who was attending a family party. First to finish was Brian. Brian had played very well to get into a bishop + 3 pawns v 2 pawns situation. These “won” positions are not always easy to win and a draw was eventually agreed. My game was next to finish. I was up against the improving William Bradley. William offered me a draw after 27 moves which I was happy to accept ahead of my impending early start, despite being a pawn ahead. Game to follow. Nigel had the better of his game well into the middlegame as well as being a long way ahead on the clock. Cor then slightly got the better of the game through a neat tactic but Nigel found the correct moves to stay in the game. A draw was agreed with Cor’s clock down to a couple of minutes. Ed was about 10 minutes down on time towards the end of his match. However, he managed to win rook for knight but only had 2-3 minutes to go. All the time his opponent was taking time over his moves and a draw was agreed with less than 1 and 2 minutes left on the players’ clocks. I was well chuffed with this result.
