Dear All
The merry band of Bishops trooped off to the Ex Servicemans Club in Aylsham last night to play our 10th game of the season. All of the games seemed to start well.... Nathan facing Matt Rauschs' Najdorf, Simon was 2 pawns up against David Owen after about 12 moves, Richard playing white with a King's Indian formation and Phil also a pawn up after about a dozen moves. Richard/Bruce Carman's game was the first to finish and although Richard had 6 pawns against Bruce's 5, a draw was agreed. The Riddler succumbed to a combination and went the exchange down in the middle game and then despite hanging on grimly, offered Matt the win and we we were 1.5 points down. Phil's game against Rupert Martin was nothing less than extraordinary and although Phil could have checkmated Rupert in the dying embers of the game, a draw was agreed with repetition of moves. Man of the match award went to Simon who played a stormer of a game against David Owen (some 20 grading points above Simon). David threw in the towel when Simon was a piece and 2 connected passed pawns up. So, you cry - Not another draw! But Aylsham are now top of the table with 22 points (But I hear they have just been overtaken by Lowestoft A with 23.5) and the Bishops are 6th out of 10. Well Done Bishops..
