Good morning all On a wet and cold November evening, the Bishops of St John's met the Knights of St John's in a division 3 match last night at the Coachmakers. A late change to the Knights' team occurred with David Elsey replacing Ben P who had forgotten he was playing. The Bishops outgraded the Knights by at least 60 on each board. First to finish were Gerry and David who agreed to share the spoils. Dave produced early pressure on board 2 which Dominic beat back and then moved his queen to a square where it could be taken by Dave's knight. Dave couldn't believe his luck and searched for possible traps before capturing it, and soon also picked up a rook and his opponent's resignation. On board 1 Richard had built over half an hour advantage but the board was still quite congested and a draw was agreed. Last to finish was Olly who had advanced his central pawns to the 5th and 6th ranks and was also threatening Rod's kingside. A trade of material improved Olly's position and Rod resigned. It's early days yet but the Bishops currently sit proudly on top the table and the Knights are mid-table.
