A superb result last night against a strong Norwich Dons Avengers!
My game on bd 4 was a closed b3 Sicilian where I managed to snag a few pawns and hang onto them. I cam under lots of pressure but managed to survive and emerge with a strong attack on Brian's King, forcing his resignation. Nigel on bd 1 had a tough game v Phillip Bonafont and after gaining decent position in the Ruy Lopez , tried an unusual line and found himself on a complicated position and facing a loss of material succumbed to the highly rated Dons player. Senthil, in his debut for the club gained a more aggressive / dominant position against bd3 Alex New's Kings Indian defence but made a fatal error late in the game with just seconds on the clock. Material down he played on but couldn't prevent his opponent's attack and resigned. Nathan , on bd 2 faced Geoff Moore and at some point in the early middle game went a knight down. Things were looking bad but when I returned to look at the position when my game was over Nathan had mustered up some counterclaim and was causing Geoff some difficult defensive decisions. Nathan kept pressing and got two connected passed pawns to go with his already advanced passed d pawn. They were more than a match for Geoff's extra Knight and Nathan calmly pushed home the victory. Final score 2-2 was a great start to our league campaign.
