Dear all
On a wet and windy evening, The Templars took on King’s Lynn at the Ouse Social Club. I drove and picked up Ed, Nathan and Alan en route. The car park in the market place was full (there were several police cars near the theatre but no clue as to why) so I drove down a side street and used a car park next to the river. We availed ourselves of the bar and settled down to play. Alan’s game was first to finish, unfortunately ending in a loss. Nathan’s game appeared to be level but Ed was in a good position but had used most of his time and had to cope with his opponent’s bishop on h3. Fr a long time my game hinged on my defence of d5 which I just about managed. My bishop and knight were central but exposed and I had to be careful. In the meantime Nathan’s game had gone into the endgame and Allan Chua moved his rook away from the defence of his pawns allowing Nathan to grab a couple and end up with 2 passed queenside paws on the same file. The rooks had come off by now and Nathan centralised his king and jammed up the kingside, forcing Allan’s resignation. Ron offered me a draw which I accepted. By that stage we both had a queen, a rook a piece and 4 pawns with no prospect of a breakthrough by either side. I then looked over to Ed’s game and found that a draw had also been agreed there. Ed later told me that Rupert had pointed out how he (Ed) could have won but with Ed’s clock down to a few minutes he had not seen it. Thanks to Alan for guesting.
