Hi all
The Templars took on Norfolk and Norwich C last night in our final match of the season. We all drew to guarantee another season in league 2. I played Richard Porter on board 3. Richard plays very quickly and only used about half an hour of his time for our game. I played the Sicilian and ended up with isolated c and a pawns on my queenside facing 3 connected pawns. I had 4 against 3 pawns on the kingside. Once we were down to pawns and knight, I centralised my king and gobbled up Richard’s queenside pawns, retaining my a pawn. Richard took an undefended e pawn leaving up with 3v3 on the kingside but Richard boxed in my king and I was unable to promote my passed pawn. A draw was agreed. Nathan was a pawn ahead v Jean Miguel but had doubled pawns and opposite coloured bishops. A draw was also agreed. Ken, guesting for the unwell Brian, played well on board 4 and drew v Lawrence Poll in a tight game. Ed faced Cristina Casti on board 2 and also drew Sadly, our achieving safety comes at the expense of the Bishops. Often, league structures change to accommodate differing numbers of team entries so hopefully they may be able to play in league2 again next season. Regards Crumpton
