Club Update 26th September
Another semi-full house last night.I counted eighteen players and a record number of internal games. Without further ado, here are the results: Nigel Larter 0 Geoff Moore 1 Standard division one Richard Downing 1/2 Javiar Vara 1/2 Standard division two Dave Elsey 1/2 Ken Ellis 1/2 Standard division three George Sewell 1 James Woodburn 0 Standard division four Nathan Abbott 0 David Payne 1 Rapidplay division one Sebastian Parker 0 Dan Frean 1 Rapidplay division one Dave May 1/2 Brian Cunningham 1/2 Standard ladder Alan Holmes 1 Joe Grant 0 Rapidplay ladder Joe Grant 1 Alan Holmes 1 Rapidplay ladder Crumpton Clarke 1 Richard Downing 0 Blitz Championship Richard Downing 1 Crumpton Clarke 0 Blitz Championship Dave Payne 1 Nathan Abbott 0 Blitz Championship Nathan Abbott 0 Dave Payne 1 Blitz Championship Harry Hoskins 1 Crumpton Clarke 0 Blitz Championship Crumpton Clarke 1/2 Harry Hoskins 1/2 Blitz Championship ........................................................................................................... Firstly it was great to see a happy chatty bunch of players and also wonderful that as soon as we got down to play, all the chatter stopped immediately and chess was played as it should be played. As for the games,I didn't see that many, but noticed George Sewell on the next board, had a queen, whilst his opponent didn't....and that was enough to give George his first standard play win at the club! Brian Cunningham commented at the end of his game in the bar how strong Dave May had become this season and had all the book moves against Brian's Trompowsky. Sadly I was forced to accept my fourth draw in four games, this time against Javiar. Having the strongest attack since Napoleon steam rollered Europe,I then got bogged down in the mud and at the end it finished in a three fold repetition. It taught me to never count my chickens even whilst incubating. Then downstairs for some fun and frolics in blitz with Crumpton. Rochard Downing
