Dear Chess freaks
I have just put the game between Phil Sneesby and myself through Fritz. It told me what we both basically knew ... both cautious players ... no mistakes ... materially even ... myself with thirty five minutes versus Phil's ten. Fritz said "a bore draw" but it had it's subtle moments, however , there was hardly anything in it at the end. It finished in an atmosphere of stygian proportions with cold rain lashing down outside and chessnics scurrying away to catch the last bus. I offered the draw because I thought Phil was going to win a central pawn by force, but it was but a silly mirage as I had it covered by my bishop. I thus broke my new cardinal rule of never offering a draw, in my first league game of the season! The good news is that we are top of the league!! There was another game being played in the internals and it was Joe Grant getting the better of Ben Yelverton. Next week I will be playing the sexy beast Gerry Clayton in the rapidplay thing. Thus endeth the Dicky Reportage!
